I came to the Public Insight Network after a winding path through traditional journalism. I spent the better part of 14 years in print journalism, mostly in New York, the last seven of those at the Rochester (N.Y.) Democrat and Chronicle as a government reporter and political columnist. In 2002, the public broadcasting bug bit me and I moved to WXXI radio and television where I was the TV News Director. What brought me to the Public Insight Network in 2006 was a belief that more could be done to connect journalism to those who needed the information. From a distance, I saw that the PIN model was a true collaborative between news users and producers. I was proven right. While in Rochester, I developed an interest in forums and convening events around the news. Call it journalism as a conversation, something I see as integral to the Public Insight Network approach. I have produced everything from small-scale insight sessions to larger forums for broadcast. It's a professional passion of mine. My personal passion is my family (my wife Susan and my two gifts – Cole and Zoe). I'd love to talk more about the network or anything journalism-related.
