Doug McKenney is currently executive director of the CPB Public Awareness Initiative (PAI), overseeing nationwide efforts to assist public broadcasting stations in communicating their impact and value to key stakeholders. He joined CPB in 1997 as the manager for station development. In this role, he directed the development of organizational improvements in the public television system. From 2001 to 2006, he worked as a private consultant to public media organizations in the areas of finance, fundraising, production, and strategic planning. In 2006, he returned to CPB to serve as project manager for the Public Television Major Giving Initiative with responsibility for ensuring the successful execution of a $10M training and development program to improve major giving performance of public television stations. He was subsequently named director of PAI in 2007 and was promoted to executive director in 2011. Doug began his public media career at WHRO in Norfolk, VA. He holds an MBA from The College of William & Mary and a B.A. in theater from the University of Vermont.
