When local artist Bruce Hucko had an idea to engage youth, he turned to KZMU-FM. Together they started Voices of Youth-Moab, an initiative that connects local teens to community while they research and produce on-air segments for KZMU-FM. The innovative work of more than a dozen radio and television stations is featured in this compilation video. All stations included are recipients of CPB's My Source Community Impact Awards for Education.

Planet Forward Engages White House Advisor and Citizens

   

Your audience community can still join Planet Forward's multi-platform conversation by submitting their viewpoints about the nation's energy future to www.planetforward.org. Though the TV program aired April 15, new online submissions will be considered for a Planet Forward Web sequel to be taped May 19 and streamed online. Van Jones, White House Special Advisor for Green Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, will join program host Frank Sesno to discuss the new content.

Engagement Opportunities for Five Farms

Check out our Pipeline for engagement ideas around Five Farms, a series of radio features and documentaries soon to broadcast online and over-the-air. The PRI series puts a personal face on the nation's farm families who work to provide the food we need. It's a topic that can engage youth and other community members.



 
 

Engagement Training in High Demand at Radio Conference

An over-capacity crowd attended "Community Engagement as a Way of Life," a training at the recent NFCB Community Radio Conference in Portland. WTIP North Shore Community Radio and the National Center for Media Engagement presented engagement models to help stations become critical partners and conveners in their communities.


 
 

OPB Selected to Manage American Archive Pilot Program

    Oregon Public Broadcasting

CPB has selected Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB) to be the initiative manager of the American Archive Pilot Program, a project to determine the processes needed to restore, digitize and preserve public broadcasting's collection of local television and radio content, and make it available to the public. As initiative manager, OPB will administer $3 million for stations to digitally archive local footage.
