NCO Partners with National Radio Program

NCO has partnered with Public Radio International (PRI) and WYNC to develop community engagement for The Takeaway, a new national morning show that premiered in April. Unlike most news programs, The Takeaway presents news from national and international sources and engages listeners in daily conversations around those topics. This innovative format gives The Takeaway the potential to expand the possibilities of how community engagement can extend the impact of on-air news.

Listen to the show at http://www.thetakeaway.org/ and look for more information in upcoming News Blasts.

The Forgetting Follow-up Show Hosted by David Hyde Pierce

Twin Cities Public Television has announced the re-broadcast of The Forgetting: A Portrait of Alzheimer's with a new 30-minute follow-up show featuring science updates and hosted by Alzheimer's activist David Hyde Pierce. The program returns to most PBS stations on August 3 and will be accompanied by updated outreach materials and a new outreach site. Learn more through NCO's Pipeline.

PBS to Increase Online Video for Local Stations

PBS will use thePlatform, the leading broadband video management and publishing company, to publish and manage its national broadband video programming on its Web sites. The agreement also allows PBS to enable online video distribution of national programming to PBS member stations and their respective Web sites. In addition, local PBS stations will have access to thePlatform's publishing system and video player technology to publish locally-produced content to their individual Web sites and to make it available to other local PBS stations. Read more at pbs.org.

NCO'S Repository Pick: WCMU Convenes Rural Community

Of the potential roles a public broadcaster can play in its community, WCMU in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan has chosen the role of convener. Recently, the station leveraged past success to support community elders struggling with depression. By gathering a dozen organizations to forge a coalition, WCMU has created a series of valuable discussions that challenge citizens to find solutions. Visit the NCO repository to learn more.
