MY SOURCE INSPIRATION FROM KVLU

KVLU 91.3 in Beaumont, TX is collecting My Source stories from listeners who make public radio part of their daily lives. To “seed” the collection, they asked two long-term members for audio contributions. Listen to the audios and read the questions KVLU uses to stimulate the stories.

StorySHARE Adapted for CARRIER

An adapted version of StorySHARE will be available to all public television stations for their engagement around CARRIER, the 10-part doc premiering April 27. Details will be sent to station Web personnel when the tool is ready. Twenty-one stations received community engagement grants from WETA and will customize StorySHARE to capture a variety of stories. To find out how they're using the tool (and gain some ideas you can use), visit mediaengage.org.

Public Broadcasters
Attend Harwood Innovators Lab

Nine public television and radio stations received NCO grants to attend the Harwood Public Innovators Lab in Baltimore later this month. Managers from the stations will spend three days immersed in learning new ways to understand their communities and create a more central and dynamic role for their station. Staff will return home better equipped to engage their communities in new and beneficial ways. Learn more about the Public Innovators Lab.

We Shall Remain: Bulding Community Coalitions

WGBH and AMERICAN EXPERIENCE have planned extensive outreach around We Shall Remain, the television series premiering spring 2009 that connects Native history to all of us. Plans include Native Storytelling workshops, collaboration with Native radio stations and a national outreach gathering for station grantees, film producers and advisors.

Ten $5,000 grants are still available to public television stations that wish to join the collaboration. See the NCO tool, PlanIT! for more info about this opportunity and to apply.

Deadline for applications is March 24, 2008.  Contact Mary Haggerty at WGBH with questions.
