East Tennessee PBS Broadens Educational Horizons
Antoine Cates realized that reaching his dreams meant getting an education. East Tennessee PBS was there to assist with programs that helped him study for his GED. “I went beyond where I was, and was able to obtain what I wanted,” he says with pride.
KMUW Illuminates Many Viewpoints
Robin Henry, a history professor at Wichita State University, knows that there’s “no one simple answer” to most issues. When tuning in to Wichita Public Radio (KMUW 89.1), she knows she’ll hear in-depth coverage and multiple points of view on current events.

Language Gaps
Years ago, children’s author Yuyi Morales of Sacramento moved from Mexico to the U.S. with her fiancé and their young son. She spoke no English and her American mother-in-law spoke no Spanish. PBS programs like “Sesame Street” and “Reading Rainbow” provided a fun way for Morales to learn English along with her son, Kelly.
WTIP-FM offers comfort in a time of crisis
When wildfires raged in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in 2007, near his northern Minnesota home, David Seton turned to WTIP-FM for breaking information critical to his safety, and also for a familiar voice to provide comfort in a frightening time. Says Seton, “WTIP is my source for the spirit of this community.”

“Older Americans are very trusting, and unfortunately there are many unscrupulous people who are out there to make money,” says Arkansas’ AARP director. Consumers can trust Arkansas Educational Television Network (AETN) to provide them with reliable information, she says.
WUNC Broadens Horizons
During the car ride to school every day, a North Carolina mother and daughter discuss important issues they’re hearing about on North Carolina Public Radio. “She’s beginning to see what the world is about and how vast it is,” says the mother. “I’m delighted that NPR is part of that process with her.”
Vital Health Information on KSPS
“Public television has made a difference in my life perhaps because it saved my life,” says KSPS viewer Mary Jane Spragg. The show Health Matters, she says, “helped me very possibly to avoid a major stroke and to be handicapped for the rest of my life.”
Joy of Learning on MPT
“It helps me be a better teacher,” says a Maryland middle-school science teacher. “It gets me excited about science!” says a student. Maryland Public Television brings schools and families together with quality educational programming.
