- Link your local community to the most pertinent, current information. Use PSAs, local broadcasts and social media tools to tell people where to find info that is most helpful to the local community.
- Connect your community members to donation resources and guidelines for offering support.
- Collaborate with other community organizations that share your interest in supporting Haiti. Potential partners to consider: faith-based networks, commercial broadcasters, and local chapters of national relief groups. Before setting off on your own plans, discover what others are already doing.
- For communities with local Haitian populations, identify community partners that have close ties with them. Collaborate to create information and support that is specific to the needs of the local population.
- Act as the glue between the local organizations involved in the support. In stressful times, these organizations often work without knowledge of what others are doing. Your station can convene them to share ideas and learn from each other.
- Help local citizens support one another and strengthen the impact of their work by involving them in dialogue. Use an online forum, phone bank or on-air town hall to give citizens the chance to share what they’re doing and how they’re responding to the tragedy.
