When asked to identify key findings or “lessons learned,”

  • 53% discussed the importance of partnerships in conducting meaningful engagement work;
  • Stations that described grant work as a team effort (rather than just one or some departments) reported above-average results that seemed to meet or exceed expectations.

The Engaging Communities on the Economy (ECOE) grants were designed to help stations convene civic leaders, community partners and citizens in a dialogue around local economic issues. NCME collaborated with CPB to administer the grants and assist participating stations in their efforts. Through ECOE, 37 stations developed partnerships with over 214 local organizations nationwide to address topics from homelessness and the working poor, to predatory lending, home foreclosure, and health care needs.
